Is it still possible to buy detached for 100k anywhere in the UK? It would be for myself , not an investment. I am obviously looking on the net etc but if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.
I think the North-East of England is a good bet. Places like Darlington, Stockton, Redcar etc, will have a lot of houses for under 100,000 - some of them detached.
I've done a quick search of rightmove.co.uk and I think you would struggle to get a detached house anywhere in England or Wales (didn't check Scotland or NI) for under 100k. There is the odd bungalow but that's about it.
Totally agree slimjim, my immediate response to the question was to laugh hysterically. Did a bit of searching in Rightmove and there's nothing even close for that much. I did look at darlington and redcar, for that much you get a semi ex-council place. In my opinon if you did find somewhere it wouldn't be worth buying at that price.
Try the Fife Online website....there are a few properties in the Leven area around that price. Some of the lowest prices in the country but rising fast so you gotta be quick.
Easy commuting to Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Sorry I still don`t know how to post a link you could just click on. Good hunting!!
Sorry, but the North-East has had a massive price rise in the last 2-3 years. I used to live there; when I moved down to the south in 1998, a 4 bedroom, semi with garden/garage in a good area was 45k. Now, the same house recently went up for sale for 175k.......and sold.
....house above was in North-East, not in the South. By comparison, in 1998 a 2 bedroom semi with garden/garage was 85 in our street (v. nice area). The same house sold for 145 last year, and many like it! Only difference is that work is more difficult to find in the North-East than down here, otherwise I would have stayed.
