I went to the Prospect Magazine site to check if the new Generalist crossword was available as yet and received the following message:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /usr/issues_crossword/593.pdf on this server.

Has anyone else had this problem? And do you think it means that we can't download it from this site?

Saw your post and just tried - with the same result. Will wait and see if any others manage to access it, but may need to send e-mail enquiry to the editor
I got the same message O-ice.

I hope they haven't decided to only make it available to those who buy the magazine and that we aren't going to be able to access it via internet any more.
I'm hoping it is just that they are updating the site with the new crossword. It is due any day, so that may be the answer - I hope. :-)
Will it in future only be available on subscription?

See attached page .......... https://www.prospect-magazine.co.uk/sub_subscribe.php?country=UK&media_code=&go=go
Sorry .. link didn't work .... but if you access Prospect Magazine as usual, and then click blue panel (top right) it takes you to the on-line subscription details.

Let's see what happens tomorrow. As JimJules says perhaps they are updating the site and the crossword will be available when they are finished.
I thought it came out around this time of month and that's why I was checking.
I've seen the posts so I took a look at the site. Usually the current crossword stays on line until the new magazine comes out. I bet they will now want us to subscribe. I'm so disappointed.

Thanks for alerting us , Ont-ice.
Question Author
Well, yes, we do look forward to it and even if we did subscribe by the time it reached us the deadline would be over. But let's not panic just yet. See what tomorrow brings.
The subscription page is offering 'On-Line Subscription' for 28 a year so ex-pats wouldn't have to wait for for delivery ($24 US to Canadians). The paper copy costs upwards of 43.60 pa in the UK (including access to the online copy) ($110 US to Canadians).

So it looks like sarumite has sussed it correctly and free access to the crossword may very well have come to an end.
Hello Ont-ice having seen your message I think its too early for the June crossword Its due out on 31st.May, I don't
think they will alter the on line as been able to access it for
awhile now, and they must know who have printed it off and not from Magazine as the print out one side plain paper
opposed to say the magazine which would have something on back like the crosswords from newspapers and different paper type, also a number of people have won from Answer bank 'gang' and not a magazine many would have heard off not seen it in the shops, our monthly dose of this brainteaser was due to Shaneystar who discovered it, how I don;t know ??? so will have to wait and see I think the error that has come up will only be temporal I have been away to Rome and have the same problem with my local paper problem error but have managed to get it after several tries so lets all hope.
Good Luck. hope your enjoying the summer sun.

I sent an email to the Prospect Mag last night and they replied that they are having problems on the site. All should be up and running soon.
At lease we now know that we don't have to suscribe in order to do the crossword.
