Down here in Plymouth the headline is "NO TO BIN TAX Tory council leader has ruled out introducing 'pay as you throw' rubbish charges" we are obsessed with the stuff yet visitors always complain about what a messy place it is....it is 50/50 natives / tourists probably. We got our first shopping mall last year so I suppose we are getting a bit more 'cosmopolitan'!!!
very parochial ours, 'jack , five, saves grandad from coma' a little lad fed his grandad sugar lumps after the old boy went into a diabetic swoon type thing, they were in the park feeding the ducks i think. i live near sunny Wigan. we always have access to a supply of sugar lumps up here, you just never know.
Haven't seen this week's local paper but last week's was "Broad Oak Farmer Injured in Farm Fire."
I live in a lovely rural village on the Herfordshire/Essex border. House prices are very high here too but we also bought our house just before the property market sky-rocketed. We probably wouldn't be able to afford property here if we were buying now.
Our cottage backs on to hundreds of acres of stunning farmland and the sunsets over the field in front of the house are a sight to behold. We are surrounded by listed buildings, some of which date back to the 1400s and are of special historical interest. The village was apparently mentioned in the Domesday Book. I love it here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
