If you find Audacity a bit daunting (some do!), and you don't mind paying - this is one of the best:-

with a preamp included:-

You might also find an earlier version in the supermarkets or PC World for 9.99.

I Have been using Audacity for ages & I find it excellent.I run a lead from my Audio Player (Stereo headphone outlet )to the LINE In input on my computer. My old 33/45 record deck is fed to my Audio Player via an Audio Pre-Amp which you can get from any decent Hi-Fi retail outlet.( I also transfer Audio Tapes the same way. Hope you are successful.WR.
