Is there a standard amount of notice that a landlord must give the tenant for a rent increase? I have an assured shorthold tenancy, if this makes any difference. I received a letter on the 25 May telling me that my rent would be increased by �40 per month starting 1 June 2007...........is this sufficient notice?

Do you have an assured shorthold tenancy agreement? If so it should state the notice period and proportion of any rent rise.

Thanks I will look tonight. He has based the rise on the interest rate, backdated to last month!?

I have looked at the tenancy agreement and there is not clause regarding rent increase or the amount of notice....

I would say a month is usually the norm, as it is the notice either you or the landlord has to give to end the tenancy.
