temperture gauge

any body out there know why my temperture gauge does'nt move but the fan kicks in when the gets hot changed the thermostate made no differance and no fuses appear to broken

that sounds like the temp sender unit, could be the gauge but cheaper to change the sender. if it has just one wire on it earth it and the gauge should read max
Me thinks there is two sender units one for the temperature gauge - usually on the engine block and one for the cooling fan - usually on the radiator - could be wrong though.
thats almost right, but these days theres one for the ECU and other functions as well but the question was specifically about the temp gauge
