What would you do?

My husband parked his car at work last week as usual and when he finished work, there was a couple of scratches and dings on the passenger door that were definitely not there when he parked. He knows who was parked next to him, it is a guy that he gets on okay with. He knows for definite that it was this guy that did it, but he didn't want to directly accuse him. My husband was off the long weekend, so didn't see him until Wednesday in the car park and he said "someone has made a mess of my car door" and as quick as a wink this guy says - it wasn't me - talk about guilty as sin, my husband hadn't even said where it had happened. The thing is, now what? What would you do? Incidently, they both drive ambulances for a living! We also know that this guy is not very well off (ambulance drivers get paid sh!t).

His car is covered in scratches and dings, ours is otherwise pristine. We are probably going to sell ours soon, but will have to get the door sorted first, our car is dark blue and the scratches have taken off the surface paint leaving white showing (very obvious). It is hard not to be vindictive and plot revenge, if he had owned up, my OH would probably have not made him pay anyway, but it is not the point - this is a grown guy who used to be in the air force and is married with a kid, not some school kid who doesn't know any better. About the pay, not a lot we can do about it unless you lobby your MP! or he gets a different job.
hi ace, unfortunately not - I suggested to my OH that he say while in this guys vicinity that he is going to get the cctv checked (even though there isn't one) but he said that every knows that there isn't any as some moron had put a brick through one of the ambulance windows one night a couple of months back.
