i am thinking of booking a mini break later this year to one of these cities. anyone know which one would be more interesting to visit for the first time?

From my experiences are dont think there is much between them. Both are surrounded or near to water and best are experienced in the warmer months as you are probably aware its gets mighty cold. Check out the Berlitz mini guides as the give a good insight.
