Thanks for your answer shakey pete, yes, it is definitely a cactus, not at all like a euphorbia, it's about 6 or 7 yrs old only about 6" tall out of the pot, the resin is exuding from what I can only describe as "hairy glands" , which are situated between the areoles that the spines grow from.
I just thought it was unusual that a plant as succulent as a cactus would be producing resin which I didn't think was water soluble, but that's Mother Nature for you lol.
