I've always thought the "one" part was true, following an argument with a goat in his youth. But brass, no.

I think I read somewhere that the Soviet authorities discovered that it was true when they did an autopsy when they found his body - but of course it would have great propaganda value and may be a fabrication anyway. It may be completely inaccurate, but I wouldn't agree with the "oh ha ha ha" theory.
