Does anyone know anything about training to be an HGV driver - this is for my other half - he has an old style licence that allows him to drive up to 7.5tons and currently drives an ambulance, but he is thinking of getting his HGV. Everything we have seen on the web seems to be confusing, different classes etc Any advice would be welcome also anything about job propects as well.

Thanks in advance.

Hi annie0000
If your Husband was unemployed, then the Job Centre may have offered him a course in getting his HGV.
If he is in work, I think he may have to pay for the course himself.
At my Son's request a few years ago, he asked me to pay for him to go through the course as a Christmas Present.
This he did. but it cost about 500 and it took a week to do it and pass. I think it was well worth it as he now has that to fall back on if he wishes to change jobs.

Hi cruella, thanks for the response, he is employed, so we would have to pay for it ourselves, which we don't mind as long as we know that he is doing the right test, there just seems to be so many variations, and it is hard to get any clear information.
Have a look at this site it gives you a step by step guide to getting licenced
