kilo conversion
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this question but hopefully it is. We have had a bit of a disagreement at work recently following a 'guess the weight' competition. Please could someone confirm what 99.2kg converts to in stones and pounds

Imade a cake for Red Nose Day and we did 'guess the weight' of one of my colleagues. Some people entered their guess in stones and pounds but our scales were in kgx. Francesco actually weighted 99.2 kg and I had to calculate all the stones and pounds into kgs. The nearest one was 15 stone 9 pound and two people guessed this weight so they decided to cut the cake and have half each. We raised 112 which was great BUT then someone decided it was wrong and that 99.2 kgs was 15 stone and 6 pound but I think he is mistaking the 15.6 as the 6 being pounds but really the 6 is point 6 of a stone - isn't it? It makes no difference really because the cake has already been eaten but before I go and make another cake to keep him quiet, I just wanted to check
The best way is to prove this is to convert kg into lbs;
So;
99.2 x 2.2046.... = 218.698 lb
Now 15 stone exactly is 15 x 14 = 210 lbs
Take this away from the total to give the remainder in pounds;
218.698 - 210 = 8.698 lbs.
(Expressing the odd pounds as a decimal is not helpful, and leads to the confusion you have experienced here. However, you can divide by 14 to show that 8.698 lbs is 0.62 stones.
8.698 / 14 = 0.62
You could also emphasise that 0.6 is greater than a half (0.5) and therefore has got to be more than 7 lbs (ie 0.5 of a stone)
I think you should hand over your apron and spoon to your colleague and get them to make some humble pie !!)
(ps - we'll have the wooden spoon when you've finished - we'll have won it after today's rugby is over!!)

The trouble here is that your pal has got a deimal answer in imperial weights and measures!
if there were 10 pounds in a stone then it would be 15 stone, 6 pounds. But what your pal needs to do is multiply 14 (pounds in a stone) by 0.62 (the remaining fraction of the 16th stone) to find the last 9 pounds.
I know I'm late... but I'm new to this website and want to make my mark on the world!
