Can dogs sense spirits. whilst visiting my parent with my dog he started running around the room staring up at the ceiling in a few places and whimpering and running around looking at us and then the ceiling, he was acting really strange.not sure he could see something but could this have been caused by him having had an ear infection maybe?

I used to live in an old pub and it was supposidly haunted and plenty of strange things happened while i lived there.
I was sure my dog could sense it.
It used to come into the living room and stand looking at the corned then growl.........
and this was the most placid dog i had ever met!
She would then start barking at the corner as if someone was there. I deffinatly believe a dog can sense things like this although im sure there will be people that disagree

I am sure they can. We moved into a house and every now and then we could smell cigarette smoke (we don't smoke) and the Red Setter we had would stare into the corner of the room where we thought the smell came from. It turned out that was where the previous occupants favourite chair was and he was a heavy smoker (it killed him). Other than that he was no bother and faded after a couple of years.
Hi julie
Our Westie does that quite a bit but only when around someone who is smoking the room.
Was anyone smoking at the time?
If not, then you are not alone. We have that with our dog and have no idea what sets he off.
I often wonder if this house that we now live in has something spooky about it lol maybe not!!!
