Differnce between urban & extra urban

Hi,

I am looking to buy a new car and are comparing different cars fuel consumptions.

Can anyone please advise what the difference between urban & extra urban is?

i presume urban is say greater london and extra urban is central london,maybe the best way to descibe it.
Urban milage is given for conditions that simulate town driving - extra urban simulate faster driving conditions as in motorways and fast roads.
be very careful when accepting manufacturers claims on the fuel economy of their own vehicles,as these tests are done on an empty vehicle under perfect test conditions your driving will probably be different and you will be sat at the pump with your calculator in your hand thinking hmmm... this is a bit odd! try to get an independant test figure from say parkers or find the owners forum on parkers on the net and ask the owners they are very obliging.purely out of interest have a look on the window sticker if its in a dealer they sometimes have the figures like the efficiency ones you get on a new electrical appliance
