A friend has got some gremlins and has a problem with IE closing and an error report coming up 'Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close' within 30 seconds whatever site she's looking at so she can't even download Firefox as an alternative.

System restore will only allow her to select today as the restore point?!

Any ideas anyone? Apologies for the second hand info and many thanks for any help.

Try this first on repairing IE, in case its corrupted or damaged files.
Go to Start>Run and type sfc /scannow (remember the space between c & /)

If that doesnt work try looking for spyware with Adaware

You'll need to download on another pc and save onto a CD or usb stick if net isnt working.

Many thanks Mac, I'll pass this on and let you know how we get on!
and then solve all future problems by downloading mozilla firefox
Disagree with you there lightoftruth. Ive had as many problems with FF as IE and its just as slow, where as I use Opera on both my XP and Ubuntu boxes and find it fast, never crashes looks good too with the right theme.
