Need some advice pls. My washing machine drum has stopped rotating, looks like the motor isn't getting enough power to turn the belt\drum. Motor will hum for a while then spin a little (not at full speed and with a loud ticking noise) then hum again. Took the carbon brushes off the motor and there's only about 10 mm left protruding with the internal spring at full push. Do you think swapping the brushes will cure the fault? Washing machine is over 6 years old, used a lot and never had any maintenance carried out.
I had a recent similar problem and replacing the motor brushes did fix the problem. Cost me about 20 for the brushes.Take the old ones with you to ensure you get the correct ones.
With the age of the machine the motor could go at any time but if you do the job yourself I think it is worth trying.
BUT Please make sure the machine is disconnected from the mains before you undertake any work.
Thanks pauln90, I thought of that before you posted your answer, ordered the parts but alas it didn't work, motor well and truly burnt out. Luckily had an old machine which had lying in the garage for 6 years and it surprisingly worked first time! After I remembered to take the transit bolts out, much to Hairyplums amusement!
