hi can anyone please try and settle an argument regarding coming off benefits and working part time as i have been telling a friend that if they come off benefits they will have to pay full rent and polltax,as i work full time i think i am right or am i wrong,he says that if he works 15hours a week then his benefit will continue and will not have to pay rent and poll tax my wife agrees with me,so where would he stand?we pay full rent and poll tax as i work full time but will he if he works 15 hours any advice would be great so i could pass it on.cheers
They could still claim housing benefit and council tax benefit:
Extra money for people in work
If you are working, you may still be able to get benefits or tax credits if you are on a low income. The benefits you can get depend on your circumstances, your earnings and other money you have coming in, and on how many hours you work each week. There are different benefits for people who work less than 16 hours a week and for people who work 16 hours or more
You can bet that at the end of the day your friend will be no better off by working part time & advise that he makes carefull accounting. As this is a trap alot fall into & end up worse off without even realising it. The people in poverty are the people who usually work & have less coming in than those on benefits.
