Host your website yourself?
7 Answers
Anyone know how to host your own web site, instead of having to pay for host with limited bandwidth, 1 ftp account , limited webspace, and so on?
I know it's possible, but does anyone know how I would go about getting it going?
Thanks alot!

Has anyone actually done this themselves, followed a guide or something? Getting really stuck - if anyone can suggest a forum or something I should post in, I'd appreciate it! (I have a static IP! Yay!)
Thanks again.

That will show you how to do everything.

I wanted to do the same as you, so I bought myself a second hand 1Ghz AMD Athlon PC, etc PC (100). Slapped on Linux Mandrake with apache, proftpd, mysql (FREE). Got myself a domain name at namecheap.com ($8.95). Went to www.dns2go.com and bought a personal account ($19.95). Then directed the nameserver to the dns2go account (FREE). Installed dns2go onto the linux box, tada. Simple, fast, and relatively inexpensive. If you're going to leave it on the net, best not use windows and IIS!!!
