We are thinking of going away for a week in December. Can anyone recommend a destination suitable for a family of four to somewhere that will be reasonably warm but not long haul. thanks in advance.

Canary Islands ?

The web site above says:

"This paradisiac group of islands, with a preferred climate and constant temperature through all the year"

Thank you, I'll have a good look.
we went to the costa del sol in late november and it was shirt sleeve mild, not blazing hot, but bearable sunshine all day ,everyday.
Definately recommend Canary islands. Lots of choice resort wise, depends whether you want lots of night life or very quiet. Would recommend Corralejo in Fuerteventura as being ideal for families, lots of restaurants and lovely beaches but few (if any) nightclubs, or Playa Blanca in Lanzarote. Only drawback with both these islands is that they are quite windy. Tenerife and Gran Canaria are less so, but are more touristy although they have quieter resorts if that's what you want.

A newish but apparently very nice place is Cape Verde, off the cost of Africa and not too long a flight. You pay more than the Canaries though because it's less established.

Have a great time!
