i heard that we wont evolve anymore, and instead we get cultural evolution (things like technology evolving and... culture :P) because theres not really any survival of the fittest anymore for humans. we have a healthcare system, so unhealthy people can still grow up and have children and pass their unhealthiness on.

i disagree. although to keep up with technology we will have to manually evolve with the use of technology, this will cause some of our makeup to become superfluous and we will in effect devolve physically.

i agree with bob. robert winston sed we wont evolve... or at least if we do it will be incredibly slowly compared to other animals evolving, because there is no more survival of the fittest sort of thing
sorry, i agree with "boob" lol read taht wrong

Humankind has embarked down a radically new evolutionary trail. By bravely taking the control of fire into our own hands we have taken on reality in a way from which there is no turning back. Whether we learn to reason wisely will determine if this road leads to a dead end for our species.
Eyesight is one example of how we have already circumvented the survival of the fittest.
With the advent of corrective lenses and the advantages offered by other technologies this facet of our survival no longer determines whether we are eliminated by the need imposed by reality for naturally perfect eyesight. However it is entirely possible that genetic engineering will eventually make up for this circumvented control by natural selection and restore our vision through a new and improved process.

Time will tell the tale of the tail.

i think we'll have better skin because of global warming and bigger brains because it isn't survial of the fittesst it's survial of the brainiest (eg good jobs)
Evolution as it applies to the animal kingdom has halted in mankind because. as already mentioned, we allow defective genes to propagate. We have however created a sort of evolution override where technology and political systems enable the survival of those who would otherwise perish.
I believe mankind will not evolve anymore because what else is there to evolve into? But i do believe technology will evolve i think it will evovle greatly, and i am convienced that by the year 2020 there will androids as servants and cars that run for miles on one gallon of water and ect..
There are still evolutionary pressures on humans. Bacteria and viruses are one example. We are constantly battling hundreds of diseases and conditions. There are also food-shortages around the world. The world population has tripled from 2 to six billion in 80 years. That represents a sizeable increase in pressures on the environment which will lead to feedback pressures on us. Evolution goes in spurts and pauses. For a few million years species level out into a plateau of slower change, followed by sudden rapid change for a few million years after a tipping-point is reached. Humans have only just appeared on the planet. We've only been here for 8 seconds out of 24 hours (rebasing 4.5 billion years to a day).
Read Kurt Vonnegut's Galapagos to find out one scenario of what humans
havel evolved into by 1001986AD!
By the way, Potterfan3, the 'brainiest' are reproducing at an alarmingly slow rate. Those lucky enough to have received a fuller education are the ones who are best at using birth-control methods. The fastest growing groups are those from socio-economic backgrounds that are denied thorough and high-quality education and training by the appalling incompetence of left-wing liberal woolly thinking failed theorists and politicians who cowtow to and mollycoddle the lumpen, ignorant and deliberately obtuse masses! Sorry - went off on one then! These things go in 50-75 year cycles so schools will return to high standards again in the next 20-30 years.
