I have to have my puppy spayed in the next few weeks and obviously im worried about her having it done...she is nearly 9 months old and has had her 1st season.....how long does the operation take and how much does it cost...can it be done on your insurance!?
I had my dog done recently. I dropped her off at 8.30 and collected her in the afternoon. She was sleepy that day, the next a little quieter than normal and by day 3 it was if she had never had the op. Lead walking for a week to 10 days which she wasn't happy with. Not sure of the cost as she is a rescue and it was paid by the centre but I think it would have been about 80/100.
The op is a 'routine' operation that your vet will perform on a daily basis, bitch spays usually take around half an hour to perform. The cost will depend on the weight of your dog, what breed is she? If she has had a season the ideal time to spay her would be 3 months after her season, insurance companies wouldnt usually cover neutering unless it was done for a medical reason but you would have to check your policy.
Contact the RSPCA, I had mine spayed and they contributed to the cost of the operation, as its cheaper for them to do this than to look after a litter of unwanted puppies.
This was a long time ago, so I don't know if they still do this.
Also, if your dog sleeps upstairs, get used to sleeping downstairs, as they are not supposed to climb stairs until the stitches are removed.
if your having your dog spayed it can be very costly but if you contact friends of the animals it can cost you as little as 35 for a dog and 50 for a bitch because they help to pay the rest they are fantastic x
