What do the probate registry mean when they refer to cousin german (first cousin?) and cousin german once removed (second cousin?).

Can the cousin german once removed apply for the grant. there are no other relatives, no will, only the cousins.

I don't know why the Probate Office insist on using such archaic language - there is absolutely no difference between cousin german and cousin. The german is superfluous.

In absence of other relatives, you can apply for grant of probate.
