but if you really want to get some, the best option in the UK is have a plate of zebra - honest! Get it from Osgrow at: http://www.osgrow.co.uk/index.php?document=6

They'll also flog you some Rattlesnake, Eland, Worm Crisps (?) or Springbok.......

Italy is the main EU consumer of horse meat - remember the recent news story re: horse meat found in salamis? - but all the evidence points to appaling treatmenmt of the horses prior to slaughter including travelling long distances in crowded lorries with no thoughts to the welfare. Bad news for ethical consumers.....

Personally opinion - I'd say avoid it. The best British beef, well hung for 28 days, is going to give you a lot more pleasure than the 'titter factor' of some other meat....if you really have a hankering , go to France and get it there....

Pretty certain that i saw on Gordon Ramsey's "the F-word" recently that you might have to import it from France...where it is eaten as often as we eat Beef.

Thank you - I already knew about Osgrow as one of several suppliers of zebra; however their range only comprises steaks and I want a piece for roasting. Anyway it is nice to have a response from someone who can rise above the level of infantilism that my question provoked.

for zebra roasts, try calling Kezie Foods - number on website as I'd rather not put one onto the open forum here: http://www.keziefoods.co.uk/products/altmeat/z ebra and ask if they can source a roast for you.

Kezie attend Edinburgh Farmers' Market amongst others with their own reared ostrich meat and venison, and offer home delivery if you can't collect. Nice guys and I'm sure will help if the cut is avilable.

It may be that in the UK we can only get steaks cut and packed for re-sale like that from the producers so you may not be able to get the roast joint at all - worth asking though....

Thanks Nickmo. By coincidence I received an order for various "exotic" meats from Kezie yesterday. They didn't have any zebra available when I placed the order but I'll try again when I need to replenish; could be a fascinating barbecue if the weather ever improves (bison,impala, kudu, wild boar, wildebeest, camel, goat and a leg of organic mutton).

Obviously I am a devout carnivore.
