I have been asked by solicitors acting for professional idemnity insurers, in a claim against them for 10m.

Only my full knowledge of events might enable them to win or settle the case at a fraction of the value of the claim.

Can I seek a substantial fee from the insurers for my evidence?

if you suggest this in the wrong way they might consider that you have evidence and are witholding it for payment,
and may legally push you for the info,
suggest this,
you cant exactly recall events due to stress at work but are reasonably confident that a thorough rest and reflection for 2 weeks in a top suite on a cruise liner (all expenses paid)could enable you to remember events in more detail!
