Leasehold property-Landlords Consent
The owners of a leasehold semi-detached house wish to let it out. The landlords have requested a fee of �50 and that their consent be sought. The Lease does not contain any provision whatsoever that their consent must be sought to let or underlease the property. The only provision mentioned is that notice must be given with a �5 fee. My question is, can they insist on consent being sought and can they charge a fee of �50? The lease was granted in 1982.

Alternatively, ask the landlord (in writing) to give you written information which justifies what they are saying.
I assume the house buildings insurance is arranged by you, and not the landlord. If they do arrange it, they may possibly have some justification related to the terms of the policy. (Incidentally, if you arrange it, you should check with the insurer that they are happy to continue cover.)
