I think it is the nature of the "Art Establishment" being dominated by men and money, that male artists are valued more highly by these arbiters of our taste (haha)
If you are prepared to look at art, in whatever form, and appreciate it for what it conveys to you, its aptness, beauty, evocation, fitness for purpose etc. etc. then you will be more true to yourself and the artist, despite their gender.
