I am fitting a new radiator to my rover 214 are there any special tips i need know about i.e airlocks etc or is it just a simple swap over . Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.
it should be a straight forward swap over job, just make sure all the hoses are put back on properly and done up tightly, when you refill with the water, put some anti freeze in as well, turn engine on and massage hoses a little to get it flowing round system, before they get too hot, leave running for 10 mins, then top up and run again, that should be fine, look for any leaks on hoses etc.
I'd be more concerned as to why you are replacing the radiator. These engines are notorious for head gasket trouble, so unless the radiator is leaking or the fins are damaged you might want to do a compression check to see it there is more trouble!!
Rover 214's and 216's are notorious for airlocks so be careful.
We use a special device that sucks the air out of the cooling system creating a vacuum, the coolant is then added slowly via a feed tube eliminating any airlocks. Before we had it it could be a major mission to get the air out of the high parts of the system.
