Getting a Kitten, tips for keeping it inside

Getting a kiiten next week, really worried about it getting out as with children the door seems to be always open! Any other top tips on kittens will be appreciated as my last cat died at 22 years old , so its been a while. Thanks

Why don't you want your kitten to go outside? If you want it to be a house cat that will be difficult with young children as like you say they are bound to leave the door open and cats have a natural instinct to go out.

Oh yes of course I forgot they can't go out until then my kitten is now 7 months old so it seems like ages ago. I think you had better keep reminding your children to close doors if they are old enough or keep them locked and only you let them in and out. Have fun!

wow 22 years. Sounds like you already know how to take the best care possible of a cat, well done.
Get a scratch board so it gets used to using that and not the carpet or furniture. You can also buy a spray that deters them from scratching things in the house, can't remember what its called though, sorry. Cats are pretty self sufficient even as kittens, so you won't need much.
Stopping it to go outside. perhaps you can just get a board or something to go across the door, seeing as summer is coming and you will probably want to keep it open. Although they can climb its not very high while still so young. Good luck.

we have 3 gorgeous little kittens (13 weeks old!). To keep them in we bought some baby gates and put them up in doorways to stop the kittens getting out of certain rooms. to stop the kittens getting through the bars of the gates we attached a sheet of cardboard to the gate. they can't jump over the top as the gates are too high. this should be perfect until they have had their 2nd injection.

pingping thanks, i have safety gates and the cardboard is a great idea. 3 kittens, i bet there cute! pick mine up this weekend, just hope i dont weaken and bring another as well !
