Right, i'll probably get slated for constant moaning but i wonder if we'll get a response from the ED??

One of the questions i would like answered is simply: What are Ed's thoughts on the lack of usage compared to when the old format was in place?

Negatives -

1. Have to log in again when moving to the SAB section
2. Direct link back to the main answerbank site is not available from the Football page, you have to go to the SAB home page before the 'Answerbank' logo appears on the screen
3. Everything does not fit on the screen as well as the main site does
4. The banter has completley gone, the regulars either avoid the section or only come on once a week maybe. I thought AB actually wanted people to use the site not drive them away
5. Lately there has been a string of useless questions that are quite obviously googleable!
Any more negatives that people care to add?

Positives -
1. Nice that you can have an avatar
2.??????

Any more positives anyone??

about half the questions on AB are googlable, but people ask them anyway, and answer them, so that's not really a negative. AB wasn't set up as a banter site, so they won't see that as a negative even if you do. The rest seem fair points, though. They seem to be using SAB as a testbed for the rest of the site so if you present a list of sensible suggestions, not just a steady stream of whinges as some users have done, they'll quite likely take them on board before changing AB. I hope.

jno, i know it wasn't set up as a banter site, but with a steady mix of banter coupled with trivia it worked and the usage levels were high. My main question is based on Eds thoughts on those usage levels. Surely the advertisers want AB to maximise airtime for their adverts.

would it help if I changed my avatar from johnny Depp as captain jack to a fit footie player?

Yeah Dot, just google for a pic of Ian Dowie for your avatar
Wow... I just wondered in to sport... what in heck happened?!?!

Why not just do that for B&S? Might be more useful.
oh who would you have for your avatar CD? It can be anything but I think there is a consensus of opinion that it should be sports related.
Is that the picture thingy?

Well in sports it'd have to be the lovely Gordon Stachern (sp) cause he makes me laugh... of possibly that half man, half fish character out of VIZ.

For B&S I'd have my actual picture http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_app rove/828449/2/istockphoto_828449_monkey_cartoo n.jpg
I dont have to log in again when I move between them
things fit on my screen fine lol
Not ED's fault people are only going on once a week or whatever
There are always useless questions on AB (but who are we to judge)

I like the new look
I wonder how much the avatar option would be abused in the body and soul topic, i actually think it would be a mistake to roll it out across the site.
Possibly if new members who were still green were not allowed an avatar til they graduated it would work though
Well I think you're right about the piccy things.

But the rest of it looks like it might be more useful for some of the longer threads in B&S.
Positives :-

1. Its blue....and thats my fav colour.

Negatives:-

1. Cr4p format
2. Barely works
3. Noone goes there
4. Takes ages to load
5. You have to log in again even tho youve logged in to AB
6. Noone goes there
Long live AB Editor, they are an insparation to us all!!!
I ventured into quizzes and puzzles the other day and I see the Ed has increased the postings in there from 10 to 20 every 5 minutes because regular readers are too quick in answering and usually in only short answers.
I see no problem with that at all but why does the Ed listen to the pleas of one group and quickly meet their request but continually ignore the requests of the regulars from old sports section.
Numbers have dropped in there. I did a count on the football section a couple of weeks ago and posted it in one of the questions.
There's no direct link on any of the Sub-sections not just football. It's not as if it's hellish inconvenient to make an extra click but.
Good post Milo m8, as usual no response from the powers that be!

Corby i see we had our answers banned last night, i hope you read my apology before it was banned.
Craig007 I assumed ma ones were pulled because they were responding to a banned post.

I didn't see yir apology but I accept it now. We all have wir likes and dislikes and we can get heated about them and I know I've mumped about things in the past.

The thing is, if it hasn't changed by now, it's unlikely to change in the near future. Rather than campaigning for a total return to the way it was, why not gie it a go and suggest a few wee changes?

Question Author
Corby, i think we both realise deep down that it wont be changed back. All we ask for is a response as to why it has changed and what AB's thoughts are on the fact that hardly anyone comments in there these days.

A response from Ed would be appreciated, maybe it might lead to a constructive debate
