A friend of mine (age 40) takes two Beechams powders everyday. They contain asprin and caffeine. They are the old fashioned type that are wrapped in white paper. I dont think this can be any good for her as asprin thins the blood. She doesnt have ill health but takes them because the caffeine give her a lift. Is it dangerous?

i take them every day as well at the moment they are the only things that help my hay fever i guess they dont do any good long term
Aspirin thinning the blood is not a bad thing however, aspirin can be pretty harsh on the stomach if taken over a long period of time. Advise her never to take it on an empty stomach. Surely she can get the caffeine elsewhere?
My Mum has 2 Alka Seltzer every evening and has done for as long as I can remember. She has just turned 68, smokes 20 cigarettes a day, works full time and is as healthy as anything.
I know quite alot of people that take beecham powders on a regular basis, also my nan took them for as long as I can remember and she lived well into her 80's - although she did have dementia in the later years dont think there's a connection.
Look at the back of the packet, there is usually warnings on them saying if symptoms persist then consult a doctor.

Strong coffee or cola drinks should give her a lift too, maybe she's just using it as an excuse to keep taking them. Too much of a good thing etc.
