Is mango peel edible?
6 Answers
I have just bought a mango and having never had one before don't know whether the peel is edible. I'm also unsure whether it is ripe. Can anyone advise me?

I do eat it sometimes especially the green mangoes, when I make pickled green mango. Also there are many, many different types of mangoes; some of them the skin taste better than others. If you have the opportunity to travel to a tropical country you will be in awe to see the variety of mangoes.
I was refering to fresh mangoes mainly bought in UK which are picked green and ripen to a red colour. Lia is right you could eat the skin, it isn't poisonous but just like you could eat the skin of a banana or a kiwi. Pickling fruit and veg of course is different to eating fresh .
Hope you enjoy it, but to really appreciate a mango go to an exotic place and eat one picked ripe from the tree or there may be somebody in your area who sells exotic fruit picked ripe and flown over but the price is a lot higher.
