Christening presents
6 Answers
Hi All
Baby Picky is going to be christened at the end of August and we have decided that as there is nothing that he needs or really wants, we would like to give the money that would have been spent by our family and friends to a charitable organisation. We were thinking of something like sponsoring a midwife in a developing country, or sponsoring a cow through Oxfam, but I am really not sure what to do, so I would really appreciate any suggestions and how to go about it!
Thanks in advance

We do this and sponsor a boy similar in age to my sons so that as they are getting older they can see that other people in the world are not as lucky as them. We are going to introduce pocket money soon and let them pay the sponsorship themselves.
Ditto annie0000. We have sponsored a boy in India for a few years now. You may be surprised at how little money is required to do this. It is less than the cost of a packet of ciggies a week and it would nice if some of the soon to be ex smokers out there could start sponsoring a child. Help is given directly and money is more effective than just giving blindly to charity. You get wonderful feedback, photos, drawings and because your money goes a long way you help many others in the small community too. We are with Plan and are impressed with them.
World Vision have fantastic brochure. For example when it was Christmas, I thought my sons teacher would have enough rubbish presents given to her. So I flicked through the catalogue and bought her a fruit tree! She got a christmas card from World Vision explaining all this, it was lovely.
