my rover 600 has started rev on its own when left ticking over does any1 no why

I had a Rover 827 that started doing the same at traffic lights or whenever I stopped with the engine running and it was the idle control chip which cost me about �150 ten years ago so I suggest you identify it and go to a scrap yard
