I had my last cigarette on January 7th 2003.Having read an article in a newspaper which listed the symptoms of emphysema I stopped there and then purely and simply because I determined that I wanted to live a bit longer. It was not easy to discontiue smoking but I formulated a mantra which I genuinely feel helped me and which might possibly assist others who want to stop.It is this. If you stop smoking you will live 5 years longer. You will look 5 years younger and eventually you will save 5 Grand a year.Try it.You've got nothing to lose.!
Crossroads.
The question was implicit in what iI considered to be some useful advice.
In other words Have you got the will power to stop smoking.
Doc Spock.
Take it from me the benefits are well worth the effort. In terms of my health I am breathing normally again. And the economic benefits are not to be sneezed at.(Pardon the pun.!!)
But the bit about looking 5 years younger is a bit dubious according to my wife.
mr B' mum has COPD and Emphysema. She cannot walk more than a couple of steps before she is wheezing and puffing away. And then? she lights another fag.
A self inflicted disease.
What a waste.
Good for you gilt me and mrs nonutts to be both gave it up around 18 months ago and have almost saved up enough money now to get married next year and have a good old bash in the dominican republic for 14 days afterwoods.
Good on you gilt! I gave up the fags 21 years ago this year and hand on heart ,I've never had the urge to go back on them. I think Im one of the lucky ones there as my hubby's tried to give up several times with no joy. He started smoking baccy about 2 years ago as it works out cheaper and it's go no nasty chemicals either. I still wish he could give up though. Good luck:-))
What really surprises me is that my desire to start again has (Fingers crossed)diminished to the point that I can safely say that I will never smoke again.
So Fran 2 your 21 year stint gives me great encouragement.
I repeat that it isn't easy to stop but if you can the rewards are enormous.
