Working in Childcare?

Hi,

I am studying for my NVQ3 early years with the plan to go and work at my mums pre-school and eventually become joint partner.

After a lot of thought my husband and I have found that it is not financially viable. I am absolutely gutted. I am not enjoying the job I currently have (civil servant).

Is there anything else I can do with this qualification, whilst earning enough money to survive? I am tempted to quit as it seems futile to continue.

very few people who work with children are in it for the money. If you became a travelling rep for pre-school toys /equipment you might make more. The day to day business of childcare is generally not financially rewarding.

i spent 20 years working as a nursery nurse and no its not well paid, but you dont do it for the money.

with the nvq3 you could look at hospitals - childrens wards, working in a nursery, supply, school work, nannying, but surely you looked into this before you started the study?

I am very well aware that it doesn't pay well, otherwise I wouldn't be taking yet another college course, working my guts out trying to qualify to get into it. I still want to be involved in it, but I want to know what my other options are with this qualification.

Meltoadhall- When you say i could try hospitals, what do you mean? I am not a nurse, so what good would I be there? sorry if the answer is really obvious and I am being dumb.
