i wasn' speeding

I've receivede a NIP yet when i saw the mobile speed unit I checked my speed at it ws 54 (speed limit 50), yet they claim I was doing 61mph. The mobile unit was positioned on a bridge overlooking the motorway (roadworks in progress). Could the heavy rain that day have affected the accuracy of the reading? Is it worth challenging this NIP? I do currently have 3 points, and admit I was speeding that time, I was rushing to hospital aftr my son had had a serious car crash, but not this time! Help, I don't know what to do

what ever happens,they will have the proff that you were speeding,you most probably were doing 61 before you saw the van and slowed down,those things have quite a long range,just accept it and get on with it,challenge it in court and it could cost you a lot more.

Odometers Speedo's are upto 10% inaccurate therefore an indicated 50 can be 55 and you admit 54 so + 5.4 = 59.4 so its not far from 61.

If you have non std wheels or non std tyres all these factors can effect the indicated speed.

If you were doing 54 the speed trap would not have triggered, rain snow etc does not effect them.

Do the right thing and pay it.

you could get your speedo checked - if it's that far out of whack you'd better sort it. If it isn't, you could fight the ticket; but even you think you were speeding, so it's probably not worth the hassle.

The speedometers are allowed to be inaccurate by 10% but they must not indicate a figure lower than the true speed. That means if the speedo shows 50 mph you could be doing only 45 mph.

Just because the point your noticed the camera it doesn't mean that is the point you were measured. Modern laser cameras catch you over a Kilometer away so you could have slowed down.

Also as desrcibed before car spedos are not accurate. Just pay up and reduce your speed in future.

Last time i looked, the number 54 was HIGHER than the number 50.

whether their claim of 61 is true or not is irrelevant - YOU WERE STILL SPEEDING!!
