Civil Partnership

We were having a pub argument yesterday,and the question was do you have to be gay to be in one of these.ie man man or woman woman.My argument was that if a straight man and woman live together and she changes her name to his with no legal ceremony is this classed as a Civil Partnership

Civil partnerships are for same-sex couples only. And merely changing your name doesn't change your legal status in any way.

An old neighbour of ours has a daughter who married & had two children.She recently announced she was 'gay', then left her husband to move in with her girlfriend.

They have since 'married' & tells anyone who asks, that they're now in a 'Civil Partnership'.

Thanks for that The Prophet - I'm no expert on these situations, so only posted what I've been told.

I did wonder whether my neighbour's daughter's Civil Ceremony/Partnership was legally binding, but if as you say they had a 'proper' registrar, then I 'spose it must be.

I knew that anyone just 'living together' whether straight or otherwise, wasn't classed as an official Civil Partnership.

I was just a bit baffled as to what sort of official ceremony gay people had to go through, to make their relationship a Civil Partnership - but now I know. Ta!
