Are there any nurses/doctors out there who can describe what's happening in the hospitals at the moment? Are patients refusing to be seen by indian/pakistani/Iraquien doctors? What are staff reactions?

Hmmm, isnt the fact that they are educated and sign a pledge to protect and help save life concern enough?

People will naturally be wary, as with the BSE crisis.
British beef was banned in a lot of countries, even though it was all controlled over here.
I think lafrancaise is asking a perfectly viable question.

After the 9/11 scenario, i was very wary of any muslims getting on my plane when i was coming back from holiday. It wasnt that they had done anything, i was just very suspicious of their actions...

from personal experience a large proportion of medical professionals in the UK are of asian origin. Its not like we have a choice. Not sure why anyone would refuse treatment from an Indian doctor, they're nothing to do with Islam.

What are you saying Booldawg? Are there not any Indian doctors who follow the Islamic faith? I thought there must be thousands of Muslims both in India and in this country, a large amount who are doctors.

Just ask if you can check in his bag, before you go into his surgery.

i hope more people are too scared to go to the hospital - it'll reduce our tax bill, reduce waiting lists, and improve the pension crisis when all the scared old folk start popping their clogs cos they never saw a doctor... all in all i say more laughable attacks should be organised by the NHS (bloody typical that the NHS couldn't even sort out how to make petrol and gas explode in any threatening way - if this is terrorism in the 21st century i feel safer than ever)

I'm a physio at my local hospital, and sorry to disappoint you, but there have been absolutely no hysterical outbursts anywhere. Life's going on just as normal.

Thank you all for all the replies. I don't live in UK so don't know the reaction by the every day person to what's happening.
Glad to hear campbellking that business is as usual. As we've often said on AB, all muslims aren't terrorists but it must make people a bit wary at the moment.

And just because Cambellking is a physiotherapist in a hospital and hasn't noticed anything unusual does not indicate much. Usually the staff in that department are way removed from 'active areas' where patients, doctors, nurses etc interact...............Worked in hospitals for many years.

Stewey, your knowledge of the range of physiotherapy services is somewhat limited. For your information, I work in an Intensive care unit, and on acute surgical wards, and in no way, shape of form am I 'removed' from the general hospital environment !

I often accompany our daughter on her hospital visits & terrorism is the last thing on our minds I can assure you.

As campbellking has said about his/her hospital - our's appears to be carrying on as normal too, despite the fact that there are many muslim staff working there.

What goes on behind the scenes should be down to good management & security. Mind you, most of the security staff are muslim too, but I would hope none of them would have terrorist connections - you just never know these days!

Fear not the staff, the patients are providing the risk of explosions. Caught one of my patients smoking a cigarette whilst on 40% oxygen today , he couldn't see anything wrong with this 'as it was his first ciggie for 2 days.'..
