Insurance on a new car - what if I crash?
I've got a new VW Polo arriving next week and I'm looking onto insurance. The car comes with one year Roadside Assistance - ie if it breaks down they come and get me. I'm looking at fully comp insurance but without breakdown cover.
So, what do I do if I have a crash and can't drive home? Who collects me?

If you are incapacitated the Police will remove the car for you and charge accordingly. You can reclaim those costs if the accident is not your fault and you are able to claim of the person whose fault it is. Break down cover will be a lot cheaper than even one call out to retrieve a car.
PS, If the car looks like a write off then you can get a scrapper (Vehicle dismantler!) to take it away and they usually have a compound where they put it until the insurers will have a look and confirm it's write off. Depending on the residual value of the car the scrapper may well not charge for this but the insureres will value the wreck and deduct that from any payout. Hope this helps
make sure the breakdown cover has the get you home bit in it.
a quick, recent (one month ago. ) story.
my mates son & g/friend had breakdown cover with their insurance. turns out it only covered them to a garage within ten miles or the nearest one if none within ten miles.
they live in margate. g/friend broke down in maidstone at 19:45. tow truck arrived, unable to repair it and would only take them to local garage (which was closed, of course. ) then said it was another 130 quid if they wanted to take car home.or he could abandon it at said garage 'till it opened in morning and g/friend would have to make her own arrangements for travell or b&b. she had to take the 130 taxi !!!!
get proper cover or you may be very p1ssed off and in an expensive situation.
possibly find out who the roadside cover is by and pay a small premium to boost it to recovery / repair / driver cover.?
