cost of a goat

I need to find out the cost of a goat and some chickens for my 9 year old daughters homework.

Anyone any ideas please?

my friend has just payed �60 for one - but she also has another that was free as it was premature and they thought it may die. Fortunately she hand reared it, hence the need to buy it a friend!

We paid �3.75 each for our chickens and I just rang up a local (ish) chicken farm and asked how much they charged, we went to the farm with 2 cat carriers and came away with 4 hens :o)

There's a goat advertised for sale in our local paper for �65.

What an asinine 'trendy' school project: purchasing 'cute' live animals. What, pray tell, happens to these creatures (not the kids) when the novelty wears off?.......STUPID! STUPID!

Actually I think it is a good idea as the children would have to take responsibilty for these animals. It is good to make them take on certain amount of responsbility at a young age.
I'm assuming it will be the role of a particular older class to be responsible for the animals throughout their school year. They would organise rota's each day and when the year is up the new class in September would take on the role and so on.
I doubt the school or parents would allow the children to lose interest and the responsibility would only be for that classes year.
I would say it is more likely that a child would lose interest if they bought one and took it home and have to look after it day after day etc.
Least there will be eager young volunteers to take the place at school if it ever happened you wouldn't have this at home, only Mum if she is willing to take over. What happens to that pet if she isn't?

My daughters school has a quadrant bit in the middle which houses many animals e.g goats, chickens, giant rabbits and they even have a cat which they have had from a kitten she is now 20 yrs old! she helps out in the sick bay by sitting with those that are ill whats more is it gives the children a great sense of responsibility and many children dont have animals at home anymore. I think your daughter should push for it as much as possible. I hope you get somewhere with it good luck xxx
