trv query

Hello,
I had a new boiler and TRV's fitted today. On the radiators there was a manual valve on one side and a valve that I couldn't adjust on the other. The plumber fitted the TRV's to the sides that had the valve that I couldn't move, leaving the manual valve on the other side. Is this correct (they are bi-directional TRV's).
I've been reading lots of forums and now I'm worried that my system isn't balanced properly.
Many thanks in advance,
Vicky

A plumber will balance the system using the one you can't normally adjust - turning it downwards to restrict the flow of the water to each radiator in turn. Then he puts the smooth-sided cap back on (so it doesn;t get fiddled with).
Since you say you have bidirectional TRVs, your plumber can install the TRV on either side - it does not matter - and he is merely using the other valve as the adjustable one to do the balancing.
Once he had put all the TRVs on, he should have rebalanced the system using the valve on the other side in turn. HTH
