Why is it that when a woman says to a man "I need to talk" he tenses up and gets on the defensive. It drives me nuts and often causes an argument. Men - Why do you do it?
Usually when men are told this by women when they are younger it means they are about to be dumped.
It is also code for 'where is this relationship going?' and 'you've done something wrong and I've stewed on it for a while now and had enough'.
It would be much easier to just say politely 'I need to have a chat with you later about something' .... Then the man can relax and not stew on it himself and try and get all worked up over nothing.
God are you sure you are not my twin,
I tried to have a 'talk' last night to my man and god was it a mistake, he took it as an arugment and was horrible, i think he pretended to fall asleep in the end, god i wanted to run to the edge of a cliff and scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my God confused! I had exactly the same reaction. I'd sent him a lovely ecard saying that if he was free tonight perhaps we could talk. The reaction to the ecard was good but when I came home from work with a bottle of wine he jumped up and said that he was obviously in the wrong and if I thought i could extract an apology from him with wine then I was very much mistaken. Wow, talk about over reacting, all I wanted to do was talk over a few things as equals - nothing heavy!
