Yes and I think that it would be very hard to get the same level of trust back again, if even possible. If it was me, there would always be that niggly doubt there that he would stray and no matter how much I wanted to trust him again, I couldn't. If he cheats, mark his cards.
Oh and ditto for females.

Not always true.
I cheated when my marriage was on its last legs, so did my husband. I would never never do that again. I now know to speak up in future should I ever feel unhappy in my relationship.
If you feel the need to cheat then somethings wrong with the relationship and its best to move on first.

You cant generalise, every one is different, i agree about not having the full trust for someone once they have cheated on you.
I know a couple that have been married for 30 years and both have had affairs once, they are still together and are happy and regret what they both did and would never do it again, it actually made them stronger.
On the other hand there are some men and women who just for some reason continue to do it, to me i think its becuase they are insecure, or simply just cant be faithful to one person, so to be honest i think it depends who the person is.
I have been cheated on by two different partners so can look at this in two lights, you do lose the trust but you can build it back up but only you can do that, you cant let it make you bitter and twisted or be revengful.
So i would say once a cheater not always a cheater as it depends.

I would say that the greatest predictor of future behaviour is past behaviour. On saying that, if a serial philanderer decides to turn over a new leaf, then he can create a new 'past' by remaining faithful for a long time! However, without intentionally wishing to make that step, then my first sentence is to be taken into account!
