Get rid of grass in the pavilion (4,3)
It would appear the answer is Turf out, which is a bit better than Turn out, but can someone confirm this, and explain what the 'pavilion' has got to do with it?

In terms of cricket, when a batsman is "Out" he has to return to the pavilion!
I also have Turf Out .. (get rid of) .. then second part of clue as grass = turf + in the pavilion = out (as in cricket, when batsman is out he is in the pavilion)?
Hi crofter ... it's a few years now since I donned my whites!!
