One day not too far away, the 'ethnic minorities' will be firmly the majority. I do hope that they will be as tolerant of us new minorities then as we are of them now (by order).

Why do we all sit back and watch it happening in every city, i know that we can make a difference when we vote in council, and general elections, but most people are to lazy to go to vote, so the same old faces keep getting elected, and saying how the immigrants are enriching our culture and we should be so grateful to them. i was in a supermarket today and out of about a hundred people i think there were about six of us speaking english,

I can't see there will ever be a time when the ethnic minority will become the majority - I seem to recall reading somewhere that white people still account for 95% of the population, although am happy to be corrected if my recollection is wrong.

Still, if Ken is involved, let's just hope no Jews decide to pitch up!

LOL jenstar and jno. I wonder if all those that continually harp on about ethnic minorities/immigrants etc. have bothered to trace their ancestry. Britain is a nation of mongrels and I for one am proud of it. I hope one day that racism will be a thing of history, but undoubtedly something else will take it's place for people to get uptight about.

Actually I think Ken L is OK. He has his faults and opens his mouth a little too wide on occasions, but he has made a good mayor and has raised London's profile. Would you really prefer Boris!!!! ?

Yes, we may well be ... but the religious and cultural differences now in this country between the British of many generations and many of the middle eastern immigrants, first and second generation,is absolutely immense and not in keeping with 'blending' together of communities.
Whiffey, from your various postings, I can see that you are deeply concerned and troubled by the subject and I share with your pessimism and sense of hopelessness!

I didn't say 'it's all going to be OK' though. It probably won't be - there will undoubtedly be wars, rebellions - a complete change in this country's population, etc. - that is how history goes. Do you not think that the Romans were completely different from the Anglo Saxons - a different culture, different religion etc.

There have always been times of great change (as jno and jenstar infer). I have no illusions!!

Anyway, with climate change there probably won't even be a British Isles before too long!!

Yes, I'm sure there were differences between Romans and Anglo Saxons but we are in the 21st century now and we have more worldly enlightenment. However, this is not reflected in attitudes between east and west.

Le Chat, yes I am concerned, but impotent. National figures about ethnic makeup are meaningless. The situation in rural Norfolk or North Wales is quite different from that in the inner cities. Where I live it is overwhelmingly Black or Asian, not that I am too bothered per se, my neighbours are lovely, we muck in together.

What really gets to me is the non-stop carping on about racism, multi-culturalism, ethnic minorities, which I get from Ken all the time. Locally, the ethnic minority is ME. But I'll bet a pound to a penny that if my name was Singh or Adiobo I'd get rushed to the top of all sorts of queues.

What I am thinking is at which point is it recognised that white people are in a minority locally and could do with a bit of attention.

I'm afraid french lessons at school didn't really grab my attention , unlike spanish, where I know quite a few words and phrases - ( which reminds me , where is that learn to speak spanish CD )

I guess sometimes because some of the questions posted do appear to be funny. For example whiffey's fear that non white people, Muslim non whites in particular will 'take over' Britain and that it will be 'handed over' by politicians is silly. It has been proven here time and time again that this will not happen and even if it did it would be so far in the future why would it matter. So there is a tendency to poke fun at such questions as it is quite easy to point out the absurdity of the question.
