Depo Provera to Cerezette
5 Answers
Hello Ladies,
I need a bit of advice please, i've been on depo provera for about 18 months now and after gaining heaps of weight as a result i am now considering my options for what to use next.
The doc at family planning has suggested i try cerezette (i can't use the combi pill) but i'm wondering if there's anything any of you can tell me about it that you can't read about from official sources?
Having gained on average 5lbs in the week following each depo jab i'm desperate not to take anything that will have that effect again so any help would be great. And if any of you are considering using depo, don't do it unless you can afford to gain weight, i've been dieting and exercising and it's not budging!
Thanks :o)

I have no real complaints with it my weight was in no way affected. I think you have to give it a go yourself and see how it works for you though, as I have read comments from people about irregular periods and problems like that. The reason I decided to take it was because it is supposed to take away your periods and it worked for me as I was suffering really badly. You have to give it a couple of months to regulate itself. But to date I haven't heard about any weight issues with it. I can't really say any more about it apart from it works for me.
I had the implant for a while there which I thought was brilliant. Unfortunately I can't use that any more but have a look in to that. See what you think.
Have you ever tried dianette? I can't remember if that's a combi pill or not but it is also used to treat polysistic (sp) ovaries and one of the symptons of that is possible weight gain so I guess if they prescribe dianette for it then chancs are it may not cause you to put on weight.
Failing all that, condoms are pretty much guranteed not to make you put on weight! Good luck.

Thanks for the answers ladies. The nurse suggested i try cerazette as it's the same progesterone as the implant, so i can try that first, see the effects and then go with the implant long term so thanks for both your answers paulaoneill and china doll.
hayley2956 i wish i was as lucky as you, apart from the weight gain i've had no complaints about the depo, shame really! I just can't stand being over weight and not being able to shift it so it's bye bye depo for me.
