Which is the most economical small car?

I drive 80 miles a day and the time has come to change cars. Economy has to be the most important factor but as I'm sat in the car 10 hours a week comfort is a consideration. Second hand, 1200-1500cc. diesel is somewhere near to what I'd like. Any suggestions, anybody? Thank you.

Have you though about a car which can run on LPG, most petrol cars can be converted and a lot of the Vauxhall range have been available in 'dualfuel' for a while now.

It's no more economical in terms of the amount of fuel used but it only costs half the price as there is less tax on it.

I would concider the Megane 1.5 dci or 1.9dci very comfy and economical low tax and insurance.

I used to drive a top of the range Smart for Two car. Brilliant economy and very comfortable. Only hope you don't have a large family.

the smart for 2 700 is supposed to get 60mpg urban.
