Babysitting
7 Answers
I want to advertise myself as a babysitter. I have previously been involved in the church and had CRB checks - probably about 5 years ago now. Would they still be valid? How do I go about obtaining the results? If they're not valid, how do I obtain an up to date check?

I know of nurses who work with children (and have a CRB), but cannot help out with the cubs/scouts without having another CRB sent off by the scouts?!?!?! I think it was all tightened up after the Soham murders because he had got the job by saying he had clearance from a previous job.
Individuals can't apply for CRB checks (including on themselves). However, you can show that you have no criminal convictions (or no relevant convictions) by obtaining a copy of your police record. To do this, you should apply in writing to your local police HQ, enclosing a fee of 10. The police may require you to produce evidence of ID. They have 40 days within which to provide you with a copy of your police record (which may, of course, simply be a statement that you have no criminal record).
