Sainsbury carbon footprint
3 Answers
Over breakfast I read the Sainsbury's SO organic cornflakes pack, I was shocked to see it was sourced from trusted Italian farmers and Produced in Poland, they also contain organic sugar, sea salt, and emulsifier.
Can't these be produced in the UK ? and do they have to have the added sugar and salt ? I was daft enough to assume they didn't contain anything that was bad for me.

As ethel says, our taste buds are generally conditioned to these things now and we would find food unpalatable without them. You can however make your own brekky using organic oats mixed with raisins and fruit to get the sweetness, does take more getting used to than good old conflakes though. i think that the next big thing in terms of food, is the buy local thing - I think that it is a red tractor symbol on the packet, however, i think that the supermarkets interpretation of what is local is probabaly not the same as yours and mine. I have down on the side of sugar and salt, as at least it is semi natural as opposed to sacharine and msg.
I have stopped shopping at sainsburys even though their food is better quality then tesco and asda, reason being hardly any of their plastic packaging can be re cycled. I went to tesco and found nearly all their palstic is. Also I noticed sainsbury's cleaners putting plastic , cardboard etc all in one bag where as in tescos they had trollies for each item. Sainsburys once wrote to me when I made a complaint and they claim over two years ago they were becoming a 21st century super market. Well they are miles behing !!!
