Can anyone tell me what the intials of the band R.E.M. stand for? Is it the rapid eye movement or is it somethin else? Whre did they name their band from?

The band themselves have confusingly accepted and denied this over the years, but seem to have accepted it recently.

I've definitely heard them say that they just picked three letters that sounded good, without even knowing about Rapid Eye Movement. I think they've probably got fed up of people assuming that's what it stands for and just 'given in'

They are called R.E.M, standing for "RAPID EYE MOVEMENT", a process we all go through when we sleep. Our eyes flicker, that is R.E.M!
